Sparkes, Kathleen “Kae” Valeria (nee Newman) July 13, 1941 – January 2, 2015
Kae Sparkes passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 at the age of 73 years following a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Sheri (David), Joni and Brad (Heather); seven grandchildren, Jordan and Jaxon Torski, Paul and Grace Dyson, Sam, Ryan and Quinn Sparkes and their mother Lorri; former husband John; and many more family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Richard and Jimmy. Kae was born July 13, 1941 in Lacombe, Alberta. She graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Calgary and began her teaching career in 1961. It was her passion. The highlight of her career was the time she spent teaching at William Roper Hull School in Calgary. Kae’s other love was caring for her daughter Joni. She loved selflessly and felt the most joy when helping others. Once diagnosed with PSP, Kae never complained. She was strong and brave. She always had a warm smile and a wave for beloved family and friends. She most enjoyed her Wednesday night dinners out at San Remo with the 3 Musketeers. Before her illness Kae loved to run in Fish Creek Park with her dog Scamper. She had a great love of being outdoors, skiing, reading, cooking, crafts, movies and spending time with family and friends. She loved to learn and attended many University courses over the years. Throughout her illness, Kae was blessed to have the love and support of dear friends and care workers. Her family is most grateful for those special souls who gave of themselves for Kae over the years. A Memorial Service will be held for Kae at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Willow Park Chapel (940 Acadia Drive SE, Calgary) on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 am.
