With great sadness we announce the passing of Keith Gisby on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 67 years.
Keith was born in Dover, England and lived in Preston, Ontario until 1979, then Calgary, Alberta for the rest of his life.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and father figure to many children without a stable male role model in their lives. Everyone loved him and he was kind; they still all visit him to this day and have kind words about his impact on their lives. His mentorship extended to his professional life where his colleagues and the next generation of handymen learned many skills from his boundless experience and equal willingness to share it.
A serious hobbyist, he started in model building where he won regional awards, then eventually applied those skills to build elaborate model trains with mountains, rivers, houses that filled 300sq ft rooms. In his midlife, he took on oil painting and painted hundreds of art pieces, some prize-winning. He was also an avid cyclist, going with his brother and other close friends on weekly mountain bike rides and even week-long outback mountain bike trips.
An all-around fun person to have at parties, and to just hang out with, always cracking jokes that made everyone laugh. And maybe most importantly, one of the most loving, caring, loyal and reliable people you could ever know; could be counted on to drop everything to come help you fix something and never wanted anything in return.
Keith is survived by his wife, Donna Gisby; children, Ben and Alex Gisby and their spouses Siphuong Gisby and Curtis Simpson; and his three Grandchildren Maia, Aria, and Willow Gisby. He was predeceased by his loving mother and father, Bill and Jean Gisby.
A Memorial Service will be held for Keith at Pierson’s Funeral Service – Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
