Kene Teemond Cheung, owner of Mary’s Corner Store, loving husband and father lost his battle with cancer on June 4 2015 in Calgary AB, Canada at the age of 51. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 27 years, Grech Hong Tea; and his sons, Sam, Franky and Albert Cheung.
Kene was born on January 22, 1964 in Krati, Kracheh, Cambodia to father Yeu Tea and mother Uong Ngan. He immigrated to Canada in 1981 and worked at SMED International between 1985 to 2003. He married Grech Hong Tea on Oct. 1, 1988 and had three children whom were the center of his life. He became the owner of Mary’s Corner store in 2003 where he and his wife put their passion into for more than 12 years.
Kene is survived by his mother, wife and sons as well as his brother Khon Tea; and sisters, Yee Tea and Tia Ly as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased only by his father Yeu Tea.
Kene was a devoted father and a craftsman. He was really well known as a handyman who loved to build and repair all sorts of appliances for his family and friends. Kene was also a skilled linguist who never passed the chance to practice his Mandarin, Cantonese, Cambodian, Thai, or Chiuchow with you if he could. He had a wonderful voice and could always be heard singing karaoke at parties. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A funeral service is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Pierson’s Funeral Home on 4121 17th Ave SE, Calgary, AB. All are welcome to attend.
