Kurt Voss Nagel passed away on January 11, 2025. Kurt was born on February 3, 1934, in Jerne, Esbjerg, Denmark, to Olfert Albin Nagel and Anna Kirstine Voss. In 1952, Kurt embraced The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and immigrated to Calgary, Alberta with his family.
In 1961, Kurt married his beloved Lila Patricia McIlmoyle (1940–2012) from Edmonton. As a Danish immigrant, Kurt exemplified hard work and perseverance. He founded Central Alberta Silos and worked at the Bowden Penitentiary. He also became the President of the Alberta Genealogical Society, sharing his knowledge and passion for family history with others.
Kurt loved the outdoors and spent time gardening, fishing, and raising hundreds of koi fish in his garden room. He was happiest when surrounded by nature and loved ones.
Kurt is survived by his three daughters: Nadine (Murray) Low, Linda (Blaine) Palmer, and Karen (Daco) Nagel-Vroegindewey, his sister Lavonne Tanner, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, his parents, Olfert and Anna, and his brother Aage.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, at 10:30 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Royal Oak Chapel, 81 Royal Elm Drive NW, Calgary. The viewing is from 9:30 to 10:15 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Innisfail Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
