On Wednesday, April 3, 2024 Lam Jee Tan, beloved wife of the late John Chia Jiang Foo, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at the age of 94 years.
Lam was born in Singapore to her parents, Sin Kia Gua and Yoke Joon Tan. Besides her parents and herself, her family also consisted of two brothers and two sisters. Lam never had any formal education, although she was taught by her dad who was an accountant. Lam married when she was young and had six children, whom she nurtured, cooked and cared for. She is also a really good cook. After immigrating to Calgary, Lam did part time work as kitchen help, where she learnt some English. Lam also babysat her grandchildren, and volunteered at the Indo-Chinese Buddhist Temple for several years in the kitchen, and spent lots of time in the "praying team", which involved a lot of out of temple chanting. Lam was a great friend to a lot of people who knew her in the numerous ways that she helped them. Lam will be greatly missed by all friends and families she knew.
Lam is survived by her children Jim Foo and his wife Anita of Vancouver, British Columbia, Henry Foo and his wife Shirley (deceased) of Calgary, Alberta, Richard Foo and his wife Lynn of Calgary, Alberta, Sam Foo and his wife Karen of Vancouver, British Columbia, Seow Leng Wong (deceased) and her husband Ngian Chong of Singapore, Jennie and her husband John Soo of Calgary, Alberta; twelve grandchildren Joy, Justin and his wife Samantha, Nikki, Melissa, Marina, Michael, Kevin, Charlene and her husband Tomio, Gilbert, Gabriel and his wife Susan, Daniel, Vincent; five great grandchildren Drayson, Deo, Travis, Isabel, and Grayson. Lam is also predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Chanting and a time of visitation for Lam Jee Tan will commence at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 in the Buddhist Chapel at Pierson's Funeral Service Ltd., 4121 - 17 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta. The Funeral Service and Chanting will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024 in the Buddhist Chapel at Pierson's Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Following the burial, Lunch will be served at Royal Taste Chinese Cuisine, 2825 - 32 Ave NE. Calgary, Alberta.
