Leon Charles Florence passed away peacefully on September 1, 2020 at the young age of 84 after a short fight with cancer. Dad chose the day after his 63 wedding anniversary to return home to his parents, Floyd and Winona, which was fitting because of his love for and devotion to his wife Carma. He will be remembered by all who knew him as someone who served and helped others whenever he could and wherever he was. He loved to be with his family who will remember his countless acts of service, his love for His Savior as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and his uncanny ability to have an “adventure†playing with his grandkids. He always had a new toy that he had built for his kids and grandkids to try out: zip lines; many doll houses; a life size sling shot; life size toy planes; virtually anything he could think of (“I can make thatâ€).
A man of many talents, he spent his career as an accountant, manager of a ranching operation, operating a trucking terminal and building decks, home additions or whatever his clients needed. There was nothing that Dad couldn’t fix.
Dad is survived by his wife Carma; children Greg (Laurie), Stephen (Angela), Rick (Kris-Ann), Eva (Bruce) and Peter (Lisa); 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
The following is a recent birthday tribute to Dad by a young neighbour which perfectly describes his life: “You are not only my neighbour, but my best friend too. I love to be in your company – it gives me a sense of gladness.â€
The family will hold a private graveside service at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens on September 4, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Latter-day Saint Charities (www.latterdaysaintcharities.org).
