Letford Malachi

Letford Malachi passed away on Sunday July 3, 2022 at Rockyview General Hospital. He was 89 years old.

Letford was born in Manchester, Jamaica. As a young boy, he stopped attending school at the age of 10 so that he can care for his sick grandmother. He would sell things in order to earn money to take care of the both of them and help pay for his grandmother’s medications and other needs. Two years after she passed away, he did not return to school. He was very independent and continued to fend for himself by working hard from a very young age.

He left Manchester when he was a young man, around age 18 and went to Portland, Jamaica. He was living in the district of Bybrook and began to do farm work, taking care of goats, cows and other livestock as well as growing and harvesting coconut, sugar cane, mango, breadfruit and all that you can imagine. He went to the United States for farm work as well. In 1964, he met Esmeline passing by her gate and the rest is history. In November of 1974, he came to Canada to join his wife, Esmeline. In Canada, he worked at CPR Rail, Alberta Hide, and he did maintenance at McDonald’s.

He liked sports and long walks and enjoying the comfort of his own house. He’s a home body. He also enjoyed football, hockey, comedy shows such as The Cosby Show and The Jefferson’s, even Young & The Restless. And he loved WWE wrestling! He also loved reggae and the music of Bob Marley. He was always a man that said, “The less you say to people, the less ways they have to interpret it.”

Letford leaves to mourn him, his wife of over 50 years, Esmeline;

A Funeral Service will be held for Letford at Apostolic Ark Pentecostal Church (4885 Hubalta Road SE, Calgary) on Saturday July 30, 2022 at 10:00 am with a Graveside Service to follow at Rockyview Garden of Peace (243208 Garden Rd, Calgary)
