With great sadness we share the passing of Luzviminda Duldulao Tabelisma Gorrie, of Calgary, AB, on Tuesday, April. 18th, 2023 after losing her battle to stage 4 lung cancer at the age of 64 years, just 2 days shy of her 65th birthday.
Luzviminda, also known as Lu or Luz, was born on April. 20th, 1958 in Bambang, Philippines, and migrated to Canada shortly after living in Hong Kong, and then Australia. She came to Canada with a group of friends as nannies and later married her husband of 32 and a half years in 1990, who she had two children with. Luz worked very hard and began her own cleaning business years later, where some clients were considered almost like a second family, as she had previously been a nanny for.
Luz was a very religious person, who loved her family as well as cooking, baking, and spending time in her beautiful garden. She would take pride in making certain dishes for friends and made sure everyone who left always had some food. Those who came to visit, would always ask for the famous recipe of her cinnamon buns, and mushroom quiche. Luz also had an interest in playing the piano and acoustic guitar and shared her love for music with her family. She was a very friendly person, so welcoming and approachable, that anyone could easily become her friend wherever she went. She will be greatly missed.
A viewing has been arranged for Saturday, April. 29th, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 17 Ave SE, Calgary) where friends and family are welcome to attend. A Celebration of Life service will also follow the next day at Garden Road Seventh-Day Adventist Church (155 – 100 ST. NE, Calgary) starting at 11:00 a.m. Guests are also welcome to arrive earlier for an additional viewing.
