Lyle “Penguin” James Buffington

February 21, 1955 — March 24, 2019

Lyle, fondly known as “Penguin”, was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, eldest child of James Robert Buffington and Ruth Isabel “Granny” Poppleton Buffington. Lyle departed mortalitys journey in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Lyle was pre-deceased by both parents, and his sister Pamela Ruth Buffington Endicott. Lyle is now reuniting with his father, mother, sister, and many other ancestors, family, and friends. Lyle is survived by his wife Alana Billene Jackson Buffington; and his siblings Lynn (Jennifer Pugh), Gerald (Kathleen Pyper), John (Catherine Fouquier) and brother-in-law, Dennis Endicott. Lyle loved being “Uncle Penguin” to all his nieces and nephews. Born into a military family Lyle lived in and attended schools in many locations in Canada, including Nova Scotia, Quebec, Alberta, and Ontario. When his father retired from the Air Force in 1965, the family relocated to Carleton Place. When his father died suddenly in 1969, his mother returned to work as a nurse and raised her five young children. This is where Lyle finished school before going on to post secondary education and employment and life in his chosen Alberta. Before the strokes which left him paralyzed, Lyle got much enjoyment from “tormenting” friends and family members across the country and around the world by his almost daily visits to the mail box, sending humourous post cards and letters. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary. Everyone who knew him will miss Lyles mischievous antics. Lyles legacy is that his friends and family have many entertaining stories to tell. In lieu of flowers donations on Lyles behalf to Stars Air Ambulance, a veterans food bank, Faculty of Medicine U of C Rehabilitation program, or SCI (formerly Paraplegic Association) Spinal Cord Injury for their programs and equipment for rehabilitation, would be appreciated. A Funeral Service will be held for Lyle at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Crescent Road Chapel (202 Crescent Road NW, Calgary) on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 1:30 pm.
