Daughter of Edwina & William and the middle child in a large family of 9 kids, Lystra Harrigan-Cox passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022, in Calgary, AB at the age of 70.
Lystra moved to Canada at the age of 17. She worked as a model, in Toronto she had a nightclub called Chocolate City, was the editor of a newspaper, and a cable tv show host. Once arriving in Alberta, she found her footing as a cosmetic consultant and highly sought out make-up artist, she was a founding member of Carifest Calgary, and President of Black Achievement Awards Society of Alberta for a number of years. Lystra was a published poet and when she retired, she went from high fashion to playing in the dirt and started a yard care & landscaping service.
Lystra will be remembered as loving, caring, generous, creative, hilarious, kind, feisty, no bull kind of woman. She was the ultimate Hostess with the Mostess. She loved a theme party and to cook and entertain. She was up for a get-together of any kind, for any reason, on any day; or a trip anywhere, even if it was to the corner store.
Lystra married her soulmate, her partner and her best friend Edward in 2000 on a millennium Caribbean cruise. Their annual Christmas parties were EPIC events!
Lystra is survived by her husband, Edward; siblings, Verna, Donna, Roderick & Junior, Samantha; her cherished granddaughters, Malika & Nia; as well as brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends far too numerous to list.
Living memories of Lystra are the flowers and shrubbery in the gardens she planted for her friends and clients all over Calgary.
A Public Visitation will take place at Pierson’s Funeral Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.
