Eileen Gates passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at age 78. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Thomas Gates; four children, Carol Gilson (Dan) of Calgary, Gordon Gates (Marcus) of Spokane, WA, Nathan Gates of Calgary and Greg Gates (Rebecca) of Calgary; five grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Penrod (Dean) of Bountiful, UT; and many other relatives and friends. Eileen was born in Wainwright, AB and moved to White Rock, BC to be raised by her aunt and uncle, Fanny and Gordon Kenny. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Alberta and the University of British Columbia completing a degree in teaching. She taught in BC and then moved to Calgary where she met and married Thomas Gates and together raised their family. Eileen was a quiet, gentle soul who persisted in doing good in her sphere. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she looked for the peaceable path and yet was tenacious about moving forward her concerns, a true disciple of Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by those who knew her. A small family gathering will be held in Calgary followed by a graveside service in the Glenwood, AB Cemetery on Saturday, April 20 at 12:00 noon.
