We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved mother and grandmother. Margarete Hofmann passed away peacefully at her home of 60 years, surrounded by family members, after losing her battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband Toni, she will be missed by: her daughter Christine Hofmann-Weisskircher (Hans-Werner), her sons Rick (Kimm), Andy, Berndie (Karen), and her grandchildren Stephan, Michael, Keegan, Davin, Torin, Justin, Matthias and Emilia, as well as her brother Willi Vaverka and family in Austria. And of course her dear bird, Coco the cockatoo. Her sense of adventure and love of nature brought her to Canada from Austria in 1955, where she established new roots in Calgary. She had the opportunity to preserve her Austrian heritage by being very involved in the early days of the Austrian Canadian Society in Calgary, where she was instrumental in introducing the Viennese Ball to Calgary. She will be deeply missed, and her legacy will be in our hearts and minds forever. We would like to thank the wonderful team of doctors and caregivers at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, as well as the team of palliative care nurses that supported us in her final days. Her farewell will take place in a small circle of family and friends. Because of her love of animals, in lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to animal institutions such as the Animal Rescue Society or the Parrot Resource Centre.
