Maria Conceiçaõ Teixeira

September 18, 1938 — November 2, 2020

Maria Teixeira passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, November 2, 2020 at the age of 82.

Maria will be loving remembered by her children, Vera (Joseph), Nelson (Dianne), Lourdes (Ben); grandchildren, Ryan, Melissa, Ashley, Brittany ,Corey, Matthew and Kaylee; brother in-law, Antero (Rosaria); brothers, Jose and João; sisters, Luzia and Virginia; sister-in-laws, Catarina and Augusta in Brazil along with numerous nephews and nieces in Brazil, Portugal, Venezuela and United States. Maria was predeceased by her husband Manuel Zacarias Teixeira and her parents Ludevina and Manuel Barbozano , four brothers and one sister in Brazil.

Maria was born in Madeira, Portugal and was only three months old when she moved to Brazil with her parents and siblings in a very long boat trip across the Atlantic from Europe. She immigrated to Canada in 1974 with her children to meet with her husband who had moved to Canada in 1969. Maria was a loving and caring person. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She specially liked spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

A Prayer Service will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4747 – 30 Street SE , Calgary) on Thursday November 5, 2020 at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10:30 AM with Fr. Fábio Vieira de Souza presiding. Burial to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery (243208

Garden Rd, Rocky View County, AB).

The family would like to thank all the staff of the 4th floor at Carewest Garrison Green for the great care they provided to our mom and grandmother. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Maria’s name to the Alzheimer Society Of Calgary (https://www.alzheimercalgary.ca/get-involved/donate-now ).

Due to COVID-19 restrictions the family is asking that all guests wear a mask and adhere to the proper social distancing guidelines as we want to keep everyone safe and comfortable to attend.
