Marie Elaine Betterton

Marie “Elaine” (nee Johnson) Betterton, 72, passed away December 16, 2022 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital from complications of COPD.

Born in Brockington, Saskatchewan to Harry and Minnie Johnson, Elaine was the fourth of nine siblings raised on a farm in the Brockington/Melfort area. When she was 15, the family moved to Burnaby, BC and it was there that she married her beloved Albert “Lynn” Betterton on December 2, 1966. After their son Todd was born, the young family moved to Calgary where Lynn started his construction career and Elaine began her professional journey in the aviation insurance industry. They worked together to build a happy and fulfilling life surrounded by loving family and amazing friends.

Elaine was generous and kind with a natural ability to build friendly rapport with everyone she met. She was a caring connector who held strong bonds with many friends and family members – and kept everyone in her network up to date on all the latest news – ensuring everyone knew when there was an event to celebrate or when other family members might need a little support.

Elaine loved to travel both near and far. Whether it was with Lynn in their fifth-wheel close to home, hopping on a plane to Hawaii, or a Caribbean cruise, she enjoyed exploring new places. Elaine loved fashion and home décor with lots of bling, and especially liked to brag about stylish bargains discovered at garage sales, Costco, or Marshall’s. Elaine was fiercely independent and worked hard to stay busy and active even while managing through health challenges. She enjoyed the support of her sister Pat who regularly took her on adventures around town. Elaine was always up for fun – we will miss her bright smile and infectious laugh.

Family was at the center of Elaine’s world. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her son Todd (Jennifer); her grandchildren Jaimie (Austin), Cody (Brooke-Lynn) and great-grandson Bennett; her brothers Terry Johnson (Shirley) of Peachland, BC, Vance Johnson (Vera) and Kevin Johnson of Airdrie, and Brent Johnson (Patricia) of Kamloops, BC; as well as sisters Patricia Johnson of Airdrie and Cindy Johnson (Peter) of Clearwater, BC; her brother-in-law Brian Betterton (Cheryl) of Melfort, SK; sister-in-law Sharon Elmy (Harvey) of Esterhazy, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Lynn; her parents; her sister and brother in-law Diane and Hector Langlois; brother and sister-in-law Randy and Tina Johnson; and brothers-in-law Don Barrette and Neil Betterton.

A Memorial Service will be held at Fedusiak’s Funeral Chapel, Melfort, SK on June 24, 2023 at 2:00pm.

Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Melfort, SK.
