Mary Morgoch (Nee Van De Ryse)

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Mary Margoch on November 14, 2023 in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 99.

Mary was born in Wabamun and lived in Drumheller and Calgary, Alberta. She was a talented seamstress and had her own business doing invisible mending. She also cleaned houses for others and developed many friendships by doing so. Mary was very hardworking and would often be found fixing things around the house, doing yard work, painting, cleaning, and canning. She enjoyed baking, gardening, quilting, sewing, and singing. At the age of 65, she started taking flute lessons, something she always wanted to do. She successfully progressed to Level 8 with the Royal Conservatory of Music and although she was not fond of performing in front of others, she would play her favorite songs for us, including hymns and primary songs. She served faithfully for many years in primary and loved the children that she taught. She was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Anyone who ever knew her felt loved and valued. She always opened her home and heart and her motto was, “Never turn away family”. She would always stand at the door and wave goodbye to visitors until they were driven away. She is deeply loved and will greatly be missed. She will forever be cherished in our hearts. Mary was very kind, patient, and caring. She had a special mission in this life; to love others. Mary is truly an angel among angels.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Frances Morgoch; grandchildren, Edward (Debra) Black, Lisa Black; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kailyn, Travis (Amber), Chandler (deceased 2020), Thomas, Emily, and Lauren; Lisa and Edward’s father Edward Black Sr.; sister and brother-in-law Charlotte (Alfred) Lowther. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Morgoch in 1993; sisters, Sarah, Annie, Philomena, Rachel; and brothers, Edward (Lizzy) Van de Ryse, Ambrose (Margaret) Van de Ryse, Leo (Burnice) Van de Ryse.

A Funeral Service will be held for Mary at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Bow Valley Chapel (2526 – 24 Avenue NW, Calgary) on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 11:00 am with a viewing at 10:00a.m.
