Mary Lyons McLaughlin was born on January 9, 1943, in Creighton Mine, Ontario. When she was 16, she moved with her parents and brother to Calgary. A dedicated worker in the print industry, Mary began her career at the tender age of 18 as a bindery worker, diligently contributing her skills until the age of 71.
Despite the demands of her work, Mary always found time to care for others. She would often take in her daughter’s friends, providing them comfort and support whenever they found themselves in need. She never judged or asked questions; she simply extended her hand to help anyone, anytime. A smile was never far from her face, reflecting the generous spirit that made her truly special.
Mary completed her education at the Grade 8 level, but her real lessons came from life itself—a life filled with camping adventures and moments that brought joy to herself and others. She had an innate ability to make the world a better place, not just through her actions but through her presence.
Mary’s journey concluded on December 21, 2024, at Bethany Riverview, leaving behind an enduring legacy of love. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Mary Lorraine Johnson, and her cherished grandson, Shawn Ryan Johnson. She is predeceased by her husband, Earl; parents, Mary & John; three brothers, Joe, John & Richard and two sisters, June & Margaret.
Mary Lyons McLaughlin leaves this world as a reminder of the power of kindness and the impact one soul can have on countless others.
