It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Matthew Charles (Ducky, Jr.) Durant, age 49 of Calgary, Alberta. Matthew was born on March 24, 1968 in Calgary to Joan Marie (Taylor) and James Charles (Ducky) Durant. The family moved back to mom and dad’s homeland of Leeds, Yorkshire, England for a time but eventually moved back to Canada when Matthew was 9 years old. He worked as a DJ in many of the clubs in the city to get himself through CEDIA/SAIT where he studied Automation Engineering. Matthew worked installing electrical and sound systems in homes in and around Calgary but wanted to carry on the family tradition of working for Calgary Transit so off he went starting in September 2006 and followed in his dad’s and uncle’s steps. Matthew and Tammy met after his mom fell sick and after a while Tammy moved to Calgary where they became engaged on August 20, 2014 and then becoming husband and wife on February 11, 2015. Matthew was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease on November 25, 2014. He ended up in the ICU for 3 months but bravely fought for his life and was able to come back home and to enjoy his life with family and friends. Matthew was a guy who lightened up everyone’s day with jokes and pranks, always putting everybody above himself at home and work. He will be missed and remembered with love by his wife, Tammy Durant of Calgary; stepdaughters, Kristianne Repchin of Strome and Mikayla Repchin of Stettler; grandsons, Seth Carter Repchin, James Matthew Mayhew; sister, Kathryn “Jewels” Hartmann (Michael) of Nanaimo, BC; nephew, Nickolas Hartmann (Elisabeth); niece, Samantha; great-niece Charlotte and many other family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. F. DuToit, Dr. Kahn, Dr. Rimmer and all the clinical staff for the wonderful care Matthew received during his illness.
