Mirvine Massey-Hicks of Canmore, beloved husband of Rowena passed away suddenly on July 30, 2001 at the age of 73 years. He is also survived by his children, Sandra Massey-Hicks of Kelowna, BC, Diane LeBaron of Calgary and Arlene Dickinson (Scott Richards) of Calgary; his grandchildren, Garett, Emily, Steven, Michael, Carley, Thomas, Marayna, David and Annie; his brothers Ken Massey-Hicks and Art (Darlene) Massey-Hicks both of Calgary; his mother-in-law, Linda; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion and Neville, Fred and Ruth and Colin and Cheryl and nieces and nephews, Gail, Clyde, Teresa, Raylene, Blake, Shelley, Jennifer, Tracy, Glen, Alison and Elizabeth. Mirvine was predeceased by his mother, Emily Jane Massey-Hicks and a sister-in-law Nancy Massey-Hicks. Mirv was a great educator, lifelong learner and entrepreneur. He began his amazing life journey in South Africa as a Telephone Technician and then as supervisor for the phone company in Johannesburg. As a young adult, he and his family immigrated to Canada to begin a new life in what became their adopted homeland. He worked at NAIT and SAIT as an instructor and after as a department head of the Electronics Department. While there he was instrumental in setting up the apprenticeship program for A.G.T. Following his tenure at SAIT he earned his Masters and PhD in Educational Administration. His career then took him to the role of Director of several programs within Alberta Advanced Education. In early retirement, his entrepreneurial spirit came to life and , along with two partners, founded a successful educational software development company with offices n Australia and Canada. It was while working there that he met the love of his life and his eternal companion, Rowena. Upon his third retirement he and Rowena co-authored a book about his journey and struggle with cancer. Mirv had great faith in God and was a active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served in many callings. He was loved by many in his role as husband, father, brother and friend. He dedicated his life to igniting a passion for knowledge and truth in all those who were fortunate enough to know him. His abundant love and inspiration to others will be greatly missed. Funeral Service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2526- 24 Avenue NE, Calgary on Saturday, August 4, 2001 at 11:00 am. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so prior to the service at the Church from 9:30 10:45am. Interment service will be held in Canmore Cemetery, Canmore, Alberta on Saturday at 3:00 pm. If desired memorial tributes may be made to the Calgary Heal Trust, 10101 Southport Road SW, Calgary, T2W 3N2 naming the tribute be directed to the Research Centre for Alternative Medicine.
