Penny passed away at Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary on April 5, 2025, after a long illness. Born in Peace River on April 27th, 1963, she was just three weeks shy of her 62nd birthday.
Penny was big on birthdays. Her friends will attest that she never forgot them. A single gift would never suffice. She would have a whole bag for you. Neither would a single day be sufficient to celebrate them. You would need to book several days off work. She always personalized her cards with a joke tailored to the recipient and watched with her trademark wicked grin as they read them. Birthdays will never be the same without Penny.
Her overriding passion was for her cats. There were three of them: Uni and Pachel, who predeceased her, and Summer, who is now permanently positioned by the front door waiting for her to come home. These were the luckiest cats that ever lived; doted upon but not spoiled. Their weight was meticulously tracked and their diet adjusted accordingly on a monthly basis. Penny paid far more attention to her cats’ health than she did to her own.
Penny is survived by Peter, her husband of 30 years, her mother Shirley and her three brothers and sisters, Lianne, Norman and Andrew. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Penny’s life will be held on April 24th from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm at Pierson’s Funeral Home (4121, 17th Avenue SE, Calgary). All our friends are invited. Instead of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Calgary Humane Society
