On Monday, April 24, 2023 Mrs. Phyllis Ping Lee, beloved wife of Wallace C.K. Lee of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years.
Phyllis (more commonly known as Ping) was born on January 1,1934 in Canton, China to her mother Tie Chan and her father Jin Ning.Her father was a businessman, and this brought him to Fredericton, New Brunswick. Being of an adventurous nature, Ping and her sister, Lancy, decided to join their father. After numerous events and adventures, the two landed in San Francisco and proceeded via train, across the continent to Fredericton. Once there, they enrolled in High School and soon were quite a novelty, being the only Chinese women in the city. After graduation, Ping returned to China where on February 12, 1953 she married Wallace C.K. Lee. Together they immigrated to Canada in 1954 and settled in Calgary. Ping was employed at Scott National Foods for over 50 years, retiring in 1998. In 1960 Phyllis and Wallace purchased a new home in Haysboro. There they started their family with Baxter Bon Lee being born on April 5, 1961. In 1979 they moved to Deer Ridge. Ping and Wallace loved cruising and attained Platinum Status with Princess Cruise Lines after 23 cruises. Ping enjoyed playing the piano, reading, music, dancing, vacationing especially in Maui, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She was a big fan of the Calgary Stampeders, and the Calgary Flames. Ping enjoyed a long happy retirement with Wallace by her side. Wallace died on February 10, 2021.
She is survived by her loving family, son Baxter, daughter-in-law Gillian; sister Lancy; brother Bing and numerous other relatives and friends.
A service will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 2:00 P.M. at Pierson’s Funeral Services 4121 – 17th Avenue S.E
A private family graveside will take place at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
