Reginald “Reg” William Petrick

November 23, 1961 — December 11, 2023

On Monday, December 11, 2023 Reginald William Petrick, beloved husband of the late Rosy Faulkner of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the age of 62 years.

It all started on a cold and snowy November 23, 1961 in the small prairie town of Oyen, Alberta. Reg was an energetic, sweet little fella with a real mischievous glint in his eye! His eyes were a bright, merry blue with the longest eyelashes ever! Because he was born in November, Reg was ten or eleven months younger than most of the kids in his class, and yet he kept up. He was a very athletic individual. Reg was an exceptionally fast runner, and picked up new sports quickly. The first time he went skiing, probably at Sunshine in those days, people were asking him for tips. Reg had next to no equipment or gear, but that only made him look that much more accomplished on the hill. I think he learned how to ski by watching the Agony of Defeat. A lot of his childhood was about hockey, either playing or watching. Reg was pretty good, but no Wayne Gretzky. Besides, I think he was missing the competitive spirit…the killer instinct that many real athletes have.

Reg was also pretty musical. He took piano lessons, but hated to practice. He just wanted to play what he liked. Reg took trumpet in school and he enjoyed it and did practice, although sadly, his practice sounded like a New York traffic jam. Reg had a wonderful, rich imagination. His Dad stuck a steering wheel on a stick in the backyard, and Reg drove thousands of imaginary miles on it. That is until he and Denise took their Dad’s truck up on the hill. Denise would have been 6 or so and operated the pedals….Reg would have been about five, and he steered and managed the gear shift. It’s amazing they lived. Reg was also an explorer from a young age. The house in Brentwood was the last house in the city on the north side. Once Reg wandered out to an old, old abandoned farmhouse in the field behind the house and went for a swim in the basement. Another time he wandered away from a family gathering in Riley Park, and hours later was found by a kindly little old lady. When she asked him (walking alone downtown at about four years old) if he was lost…he said, “no, my Dad is.” Reg was allergic to cats, dogs and horses – and probably more, but always enjoyed animals – especially dogs.

Reg drove cab for many years. In 1988 Reg met and fell in love with his soul mate Rosy. Rosy had two girls, Roxanne and Jaime, who he loved dearly as his own. In 1991 his son Billy was born. Reg loved to spend time with his family and friends camping, watching hockey and playing golf. He also had a love for traveling to Mexico. With his business, Hound Dog Construction, Reg built and renovated houses for many years. He also attended SAIT taking a course involving radiation mitigation around homes. Reg had a passion to spend time with his grandkids, especially his great-granddaughters.

Reg is survived by his children Roxanne Faulkner (Shane Furlong) of Spaniards Bay, Newfoundland, Jaime Marsh of Calgary, William “Billy” Petrick of Calgary; grandchildren Ethan Faulkner, Devon Brough, Shelby Faulkner (Eddie Ryland), Ashton McCartney, Alexandra Pengelly all of Calgary, Nixon Jones of Spaniards Bay, Newfoundland; great-grandchildren Taliah Faulkner of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Elizabeth Faulkner-Ryland of Calgary, Aaliyah Faulkner of Calgary; siblings Heather Johns (Larry) of Surrey, British Columbia, Denise Petrick of Calgary, and Tippy Ohlinger (Brian) of Calgary. Reg will be dearly missed his nieces, nephews, relatives and his many friends of 20 plus years.

Reg was predeceased by his wife Rosy and his parents William John and Edith Myrtle Petrick.
