Rita Marlene Hawryluk (nee Sallenbach)

Marlene passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 92. She was born on June 15, 1932 in Vulcan, Alberta to Otto and Ivy Sallenbach (Nielson), the middle child of seven. Her family moved to Three Hills in 1935, to Calgary in 1936 and to Rosemary in 1944. Marlene came to Calgary for work in 1949 where she met the love of her life Fred Hawryluk. They were married in Calgary in 1952. Together they raised five children, teaching them by example to serve others and love the Lord. Always an optimist, she started each day with a cheerful disposition. She loved to sew, crochet, journal, and go camping in the Rockies. Marlene was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including teaching and serving with Fred at the Calgary Alberta Temple. 

Marlene will be lovingly remembered by her three sons Dwayne (Kathy), Darwin (Patti), Jody (Sandra), all of Calgary; two daughters Merrilee (Darryl) Reed of Calgary; Twyla (Mike) Cluster of Ogden, Utah; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; brothers Glenn of Poway, California and Ted of Abbotsford, British Columbia; sisters Shirley Stevenson of Raymond, Alberta and Bev Fisher (Barry) of Kirkland, Washington; as well as many other relatives and friends. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Fred (2017), her parents, brother Lloyd (2005), sister Betty (2023) and grandson Ryan Hawryluk (1978).

Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Forest Lawn Chapel (833 44 St SE, Calgary) on Friday, February 7th at 11:00 am with Visitation from 10:00 – 10:45 am.
