Robert "Bob" Lawrence Burns

December 29, 1940 — September 8, 2024

Calgary

Bob Burns, born on December 29, 1940, in Lethbridge Alberta, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the age of 83 years old. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Bob married the love of his life, Elizabeth Laqua, on October 10, 1964. They went on to have four beautiful and well-behaved girls, Jane, Jeanne, Jeannine, and Heather, whom Robert adored and spoiled fully. Bobs life was very full and busy, as four girls tend to do that. He enjoyed all life had to offer; family times, traveling, camping, and making memories. The adventures continued on for many years and the traveling progressed, from tents to the motorhome, then on to cruises and time shares.

Bob's girls provided him with nine grandchildren, bringing him more joy and allowing the shenanigans to continue. Papa was the greatest to hang out with, telling stories, having sleep overs, and watching true crimes. He attended the children’s sporting events with a smile and words of encouragement.

Bob cherished the holidays and spending time with his loved ones. Holiday gatherings were always known for the lively entertainment and the dinner where Robert enjoyed cooking the holiday bird (Tom) for family and friends, with the attendance continuously growing over the years. Bob and Elizabeth spent many hours dancing and supporting the Legion and the ANA. Enjoying the company of friends and family at many of their events.

Bob was preceded to heaven by his parents Ellen and John Robert Burns; twin sister Beverly Poapst; daughter Jeannine Unser; in-Laws Emil and Isabel Laqua, Chris Laqua, David Laqua, Greg Poapst, Janet Laqua; and nephew Curtis Laqua.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth, their children, Jane (Todd), Jeanne (Brad), Heather (Shane), and son-in-law Richard. His grandchildren, Kayla (Kristian), Alex, Braden (Stephanie), Ella (Kyle), Spenser (April), Bret (Rosalyn), Lexi, Jordan (Mackenzie), and Robert (Tatum); great grandchildren, Nathan, Blake, Kyle, Jaxon, Isabella, Peyton, Madeline, and Adelaide; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

While we lost a beloved husband, dad, and Papa, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others, and even a glorious pain in the neck to some. Whether it was a loved one or a car, he made sure to enjoy things when they were running smoothly and do his best to repair them when they weren't. Although his greatest role to us was dad and papa, there was so much more to him - he was also an uncle, friend, coworker and colleague, cousin, brother, car enthusiast, dog lover, handyman, and so much more.

We invite you all to share pictures or memories. It was his wish that we laugh, reminisce, and smile together during this time.
