Purdy, Roland Thomas (Rolley) June 6, 1933 – December 21, 2014 Born in Edmonton on June 6, 1933, Roland Purdy passed away on December 21, 2014 in Strathmore, Alberta at the age of 81 years. He is survived by Violet, his loving wife of 55 years; two sons, Gordon (Nancy) and Barry; daughter Laurie (Ronald) Kooy; two granddaughters, Amanda a great granddaughter, Kyla Kooy; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, Melville & Minnie Purdy, a sister, Dora Foley, his brothers, Leonard, Melville Jr., Irvin, Raymond, Garry, and Jerry. A proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 21 years, Rolley served in Egypt, Germany & Cyprus as well as various postings in Canada. Following his retirement from the military he went to work for St. John’s Ambulance where he worked for 18 years, serving as manager for Southern Alberta. Rolley loved spending time in the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. When his health made those things challenging, he took pleasure in watching wrestling on television and spending time in the back yard with his family. A Funeral Service will be held for Rolley at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11:00 am with visitation starting at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roland Purdy’s honor to the Royal Canadian LegionBranch #10; Strathmore (230 – 2 Avenue, Strathmore, AB T1P 1K1).
