Rolf Rau

Rolf Rau passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife Rita and his children: Dorothy Rau, Sharon (Dennis) Locking, Glenn (Miriam) Rau, Anita (Gary) Weiss, Allan (Susan) Rau, Adrian Rau and Rachel (Kirk) Housley. He loved his 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and will be missed by them. He will reunite with his parents and 10 brothers and sisters who have all passed on before him.

Rolf was born and raised in Frankfurt am Main, Germany on September 12,1930. He came to Canada as a young man in search of new opportunities. He valued hard work and supported his family as a foreman at Canada Packers and later as a meat inspector for the government of Canada. Upon retiring in 1991, he dedicated his time to genealogy.

Devotion to God and family was most important to him and shaped the course of his life. He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout the years. His children and grandchildren will remember his unconditional acceptance, kind words of support, wise advice and his favorite jokes. Friends and all who knew him were blessed by his patient, caring and gentle disposition.

Rolf dearly loved his sweetheart Rita and cherished their 65 years together. Aside from raising a family and navigating the challenges of life, they enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, cross country skiing, cycling, walking and travelling.

We would like to express our thanks to the home care and nursing staff at United Active Living. We appreciate their kindness and the quality care they gave to Rolf during the last few months of his life.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Pierson’s Funeral Home (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm.
