Sharon was born and grew up in Portland, Oregon. She was the second daughter of George and Hazel Ballinger. She attended college at Brigham Young University, where she met Curtis Henrie. Sharon graduated with a major in Interior Design. She returned to Portland and worked in the drapery department of a major department store. When she married Curtis in 1976, they settled in Calgary, Alberta, and have resided there since.
She raised three children, a daughter and two sons, in Calgary. While her children were young, she spent many hours in cold hockey rinks, encouraging her children to practice the piano, and driving kids to their numerous activities. While much of her time was as a stay-at-home mom, she worked in registration at a community college, taught classes at a quilt store, and volunteered for a number of school programs.
Her hobbies included a variety of artistic endeavors. She excelled in the art of stained glass, tole painting, and sewing. She also created award winning porcelain dolls. Later in her life she found much joy in quilting, and many babies were wrapped in the warmth of her blankets.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When her children were small, she served for many years in the Primary organization as a leader for the children’s program. She later spent many years working in the Relief Society organization for women. She served as president of that organization, as counselor, and as the service committee chair. In addition to other responsibilities, she provided meals for numerous families. She was known for her kindness to others, often showing up with a plate of cookies or buns when someone was sick or struggling.
She loved her family, but especially her grandchildren and was always thinking of them. She showered them with gifts and love. The grandkids always knew that grandma was the best cook and where to look for snacks and candy when visiting her home. She always prioritized being available for her children and grandchildren. She supported them in all they did.
Her husband Curt was her best friend, and she was his biggest supporter. His dreams were always important to her, as hers were to him. She will be missed greatly by all who had the opportunity to know and love her.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Curtis Henrie, her children Michelle (Patrick) Teskey of Innisfail, Alberta; Wayne (Jenna) Henrie of Rexburg, Idaho; and Steve (Cindy) Henrie of Calgary, Alberta; and nine grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Gail Ballinger of Mountain View, California.
