Sharon Ruth Honeychurch

December 25, 1942 — April 25, 2021

Sharon Ruth Honeychurch passed into the presence of her Lord Jesus from Carewest Sarcee on April 25, 2021.

She was born in Calgary on Christmas Day 1942 and lived most of her life in this city. Sharon studied at the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta, receiving Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Education degrees. She also pursued religious studies at Regent College completing a Diploma in Christian Studies. For 31 years, Sharon was a dedicated, hardworking high school mathematics teacher for the Calgary Public School Board. Helping students with math difficulties succeed brought her much joy.

A committed Christian, Sharon served in her church, Glenmore Temple, in many ways, most particularly in sharing her extensive knowledge of the Bible. Her Thursday night family dinners and December 23rd Christmas party, a Honeychurch family tradition for over 75 years, were legendary as were her delectable cinnamon buns. While she was known for her excellent meals and fantastic desserts, they were merely a means for her to demonstrate her care and interest in others. Her warm hospitality and caring nature will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

Sharon was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Wayne Russell and great niece, Hope Kroeker. Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Tom Royan as well as her nieces and nephews, William Royan, Judy Royan, Michael Royan, Susan (Steven) Kroeker, Douglas Russell, Sandra (James) Ullyott, and Steven (Susan) Russell, as well as 10 great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Carewest Sarcee who cared for Sharon over this challenging year when we were unable to spend as much time with her as we would have liked.

Due to Covid restrictions, the family will be holding a private memorial service on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 2 pm. This will be live-streamed on YouTube (Glenmore Live) and on Facebook (The Salvation Army, Glenmore Temple). Livestreaming will begin at 1:50. If friends so desire, memorial donations to the Salvation Army Glenmore Temple, 921 – 68 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB, T2V 0N7 or online at salvationarmy.ca would be received with gratitude.
