Shawn Franklin Yunick

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024 Mr. Shawn Franklin Yunick of Calgary, Alberta passed away suddenly at the age of 47 years.  

Shawn is survived by his mother, Sally Yunick of Benito, Manitoba; siblings, Sharon (Paul) Draper of Preeceville, Saskatchewan, John Yunick (Beth Barrett) of Calgary, Peter (Annette) Yunick of Barnwell, Alberta, and Michelle (Daryl) Rees of Airdrie, Alberta; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Shawn is predeceased by his father, Edward Yunick; paternal grandparents, Emily and Frank Yunick; and maternal grandparents, Dora and Nick Sushelnitski.

Shawn was born in Swan River, Manitoba. He attended Kindergarten to Grade 8 at the Arran High School, then went to Pelly High School to complete his schooling.

Shawn moved to Swan River, Manitoba and started working with special needs adults to assist them with daily life activities. He then moved to Picture Butte, Alberta and started working for his uncle's construction company. From there, Shawn moved to Calgary and worked as a warehouse picker and shipper/receiver for a sporting goods store and medical supply company. Shawn then got transferred to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he continued to work for the medical supply company for a number of years. Shawn ended up moving back to Alberta where he then decided to try his hand at cooking. He worked as a cook in Calgary and Fort MacLeod, Alberta.

After Shawn had found his passion for cooking, he enjoyed showing his skills to family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, fishing, picking mushrooms in Saskatchewan, and anything to do with his favorite football team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. If you saw Shawn, he would have his camera with him. He loved taking pictures of Arran High School and any family gatherings. Shawn also enjoyed dehydrating food, especially fruit and the mushrooms he picked. They turned out to be great, just like you bought them from a store. 

A Celebration of Life for Shawn will be held commencing at 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 from two locations: Claresholm Social Centre, 5009 - 2 Street East, Claresholm, Alberta, and Arran and District Sunshine Centre, Main Street, Arran, Saskatchewan.

Shawn will be greatly missed by family and friends.   Cremation has taken place at the Foothills Crematorium.
