It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Kyle on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the age of 74 years. She was the loving mother of Sherry (Dwayne) Knoke and Beverly (Dale) Criss; grandmother of Jessica (Chris) Davey, Brittany (Pat) McPhedran, Amber and Kyla Watkins, Teresa and Anthony Criss; great-grandmother of Cole Davey. She will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband Russell Kyle, her parents Evelyn and Ernest Sundholm, daughter Barbara, brother Kevin, sisters; Helen (Roy) Rothery and Evelyn (Walter) Friesen, and great-grandson Michael Davey. She was raised in the Hamlet of Water Valley, AB, her great-grandparents were original homesteaders of the area. A very memorable first date resulted in 53 wonderful years of marriage for Shirley and Russell. When car-savvy Shirley was picked up for their first date in Russell’s brand new car, later that evening she wasn’t able to remember the make or model of it – that’s when her brother-in-law commented to her “well that’s true love.” Shirley was a one-of-a-kind mother who took great pride in baking, cooking, and maintaining a “hotel-like” home with home decor items for every season. During the summers Shirley and Russell loved to pack up their camper and take their daughters on road trips through various provinces and states. In 1979 they purchased 40 acres near Bergen, AB on which they built a cabin that they called The Kyle Estate. The whole family has enjoyed the cabin and have made many wonderful memories there. One of her favorite things to do was relax at the cabin. She loved dogs and horses but feeding and petting the horses on the property was what she loved the most. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She was a loving and doting grandmother who always ensured that the children were fed and she always treated them by buying “a little something” for each of them whenever they went shopping. When her daughters would lovingly mentioned that she did not always need to buy the children something she would always reply with, “a grandma’s job is to spoil. One day, you will get to spoil your grandchildren too”. Shirley’s kind nature and loving heart was truly reflected in how much she loved and cared for her family.
