Sonia Elsie Wonsul passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at the age of 82 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Connie Wonsul, Michael Glassford-Wonsul, Kimberley Hannam, and Roxane McGonigal; her grandchildren, Dawn Tomlinson, Christopher MacPherson, Clayton John MacPherson, Andrea Wonsul, Andrew Wonsul, Jonathon Wonsul, Jordan McGonigal, Taylor Riley, Madison Winkle and Mackenzie Hannam; Sonia’s siblings, Barbara Martens, Mary Janower, Pat Shuwera, Tony Yanick, Sherray Duran, Ron Yanyk, Don Yanick, Debbie Snow, Wes Yanick, Irene Fleet; as well as Sonia’s many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Sonia was born to Alex and Margaret Yanick. She was raised on her family farm in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. Being that Sonia was one of the eldest children, she became like a mother to many of her siblings. In the 60’s, she moved with her husband to Regina where she raised her four children. Sonia’s children were her life. At 40, Sonia got her driver’s license and a new found freedom. She attended Guelph University to become a florist, a career she flourished in. Sonia always had a passion for cooking, canning, gardening and flowers. She was the sweetest woman who gave so much of herself to so many. She will be dearly missed.
Sonia was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Margaret Yanick; brothers, Steve, Peter, Alester, Larry, John; Sonia’s sister, Constance.
Sonia will be laid to rest next to her family members in Shoal lake, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the heart and stroke foundation of Canada.
