Steve MacNeil passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 69 Years. Dear husband of Anne MacNeil and loving father to Geoff, Sheena and Peter. Steve was the oldest of seven children born to Jessie and Steve MacNeil (both deceased). Beyond his immediate family who survive him, he will be dearly missed by a much larger extended family and many dear friends.
Steve’s maritime roots were in New Waterford, N.S. where he was born, raised and completed high school at St. Agnes. He went on to graduate from St. Francis Xavier University. After teaching for only one month and realizing it was not his cup of tea, he joined the RCMP, a job he loved. He returned to School at Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S where he completed his Law Degree. When Steve wasn’t playing hockey, he practiced law right up to his cancer diagnosis in November. Next to his impeccable lawn, Steve was most proud that all three of his children were graduates of his Alma Mater St. Francis Xavier, where he sat on the Board of Governors. Steve also sat on the Board for Fort Calgary and championed several charitable organizations including St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Catholic Immigration Society. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the Foothills Special Services Building and their family Doctor Mark Joyce for excellent care and compassion during his fight with cancer.
“Nothing on earth can make up for the loss of one who has loved you.”

A funeral Mass in his honour will be Con-celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 541 Silvergrove Drive NW on Friday, March 2 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
