Richards, Sys Birgit November 4, 1945 – September 9, 2014

Sys Richards passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the age of 68 years. She was an intelligent, creative, curious, deeply feeling, independent and beautiful woman. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 46 years Tom Richards; children Tadzio (Natasha) and Kaja; grandson Isaac; siblings, Mikkel (Ann), Ansa (Bob), Coco (Toshi); and her many relatives. Born in Denmark, Sys and her family moved to Canada when she was seven and made a home by the river in Bowness, Calgary. She married the love of her life Tom, and moved to BC where they started their family and lived an adventurous life with unique and wonderful friends, art, literature, animals, flowers, strange rocks, tangled roots, travel and happiness. Sys loved and understood the spirits of the mountains and rivers of the west. She was an accomplished artist who eventually became a professor of Art History at the University of Calgary. Her passion for art inspired many with the love of art and learning and creative exploration. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A private Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, September 20. The family would like to thank Dr. Bates, Dr. Dickenson, the Calgary Palliative Home Care Team and the Agap Hospice. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca. In lieu of flowers, tell your friends you love them, do something you have always wanted to do, and be yourself on this wild and beautiful earth.
