It is with heavy hearts that the family of Vera Ilse Treutler announces her passing on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the age of 87 years. Vera is survived by her children, Dorothy Kreitmier, Renate (Jim) Barr, and Michael Treutler, all of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Mark Barr of Turner Valley, AB, Kimberley (Darren) Roy of Calgary, AB, Korayne Romanchuk of Halifax, NS, and Ryan Koelwyn of Calgary, AB; great grandchildren, Bradley and Paige Roy of Calgary, AB; siblings, Dieter (Renate) Gerlach, Silvia (Reinhart) Treutler, Ferdinand (Helga) Degner, all of Berlin, Germany; nieces and nephews, Gabriele Degner, Achium Degner, Sabine Senger, and Franziska (Daniel) Quolke, all of Berlin, Germany; as well as numerous friends. She was predeceased by her husband of over 35 years, Alfons Treutler; and her parents, Willie and Margaret Gerlach. Vera was born in Berlin, Germany and it was her adventurous spirit and courage that brought her, Alfons, and their two children (and one on the way) to Canada. Alongside raising a family and learning a second language, Vera licensed as a registered nurse and devoted her skills to both the General Hospital, Foothills Hospital, and several care facilities. She enjoyed camping, knitting, and was an avid reader, well versed in political literature. A woman of true strength and dedication, Vera will be forever lovingly remembered and never forgotten. A Funeral Service will be held for Vera at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel, on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00am, with viewing prior at 10:00am.
