Vernetta Pilling Reed, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully with family at her side on November 17th, 2020. Vernetta was the youngest of twelve children. She was born to Rufus and Susannah (Harker) Pilling on July 27th, 1928 in Cardston, AB. She shared more than 64 wonderful years with her eternal companion, Lorne, before he passed away in 2013. Vernetta was an amazing mother to her eight children, including the first three who passed in a tragic car accident in 1958.
Her beautiful, compassionate nature radiated love and light to all who knew her. She was the perfect hostess and loved to cook for a crowd. She was renowned for her baking and delectable hand-dipped chocolates. She was also known for her beautiful handiwork, which included gorgeous quilts and sewing creations.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and gave her life in service. She especially treasured her role as a mother and grandmother.
Vernetta is lovingly remembered by her five children: David Reed, Joanne (Fraser) Smith, Darryl (Merrilee) Reed, Susan (Lance) Gallup and Kenneth (Kara) Reed; her sister, Audrey Jensen; her 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
