In Walter’s Words, I was born on the homestead at Stony Plain Alberta Canada, November 13, 1915. I was the seventh child out of 16, Parents Margaret (Miller) Goebel and Fred Goebel. Fred, Val, Emil, Louie, Emelie, Elsa, Walther, Frieda, Lydia, Paul, Elizabeth, Otto, Art, Esther, Edna and Martha. Baptised into the faith of our Lord Jesus and Saviour on the 5th of December 1915 into membership of Ev. St. Matthews Lutheran Church at Stony Plain. Confirmed at Stony Plain on Palm Sunday March 29, 1931 by Pastor E. Eberhardt. While attending Ev. St. Matthews Lutheran Church I taught Sunday School, was on the financial board, sang in the choir, was a member of the Walther League for many years. Farmed on the homestead on a mixed farm until 1960. Did some carpentry work for extra money. Met Eileen at a dance in Edmonton. Married Eileen November 19, 1960 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Edmonton, adopted Gary & Lorne. Moved to Calgary shortly after to operate the Balzac Seed Cleaning Plant 10 miles north of Calgary. Melody was born in 1961. We joined Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Calgary, where I was Superintendant of Sunday School and President of the Church for a number of years later. The Congregation became debt free a few years later. Served on other boards until I retired to Peachland, B.C. September of 1980. Joined St. John’s Lutheran Church at Summerland, became head usher that first year. Served on other boards until 1998. I decided I was too unstable to help serve the Lord’s Supper and decided the younger men should fulfill that duty. While in Peachland we gardened, grew fruit, walnuts, made sausage, apple strudel and enjoyed our Church Family. We joined the Health In Action Group and Seniors Group in Peachland. In June, 2002 moved back to Calgary. Bought a home in Prince of Peace Village and became members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Eileen has always been a loving wife, good cook and very helpful mate. I thank the Lord for all the loving goodness he has given me and that the Holy Spirit has brought me to faith in our Saviour Jesus Christ and that my sins are forgiven. The Lord My God has been good to me. Walter

I Have A Place In Heaven Forget your grief and fears, I am in a perfect place, Away from pain and tears… I’m far away from hunger, And hurt and want and pride. I have a place in heaven, With the Master at my side.
My life on earth was very, good, As earthly lives can go, But paradise is so much more Than anyone can know…. My heart filled with happiness, And sweet rejoicing, too. To walk with God is perfect peace I know that I am Home.
