With great sadness we announce the passing of Gary Philip Wickson on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the age of 78.
Gary was born in Hardesty, Alberta and came to live in Calgary with his mother Martha and brother Bobby when he was 16 years old. The farm and country life always held a special place in Gary’s heart.
Gary had a passion for nature from an early age and enjoyed taking care of the land. Gary found the perfect career in 1979 as he was hired on with the City of Calgary Parks Department. Gary went on to work at the parks department for 33 years until his retirement in 2012. During his time at the Parks Department, Gary made many close friendships.
Gary enjoyed hunting, camping with family and friends, going to country music concerts and loved to cheer on the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Green Bay Packers. Gary was a country boy at heart and you would never see him wearing anything other than blue jeans.
Gary loved to dance and he was able to fulfill this passion later on in life as he would attend music jams. Most of all Gary was a family man and did everything he could to ensure his family was cared for, protected and loved. Gary had a great sense of humour and was a jokester.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Istvan) Nemeth; grandchildren, Adorjan (Adi) and Adriana; sister-in-law, Lynne Wickson; cousins, Sheron and Rocky.
Gary was predeceased by his parents and his brother Robert “Bobby” Wickson.
A Memorial Service will be held at Pierson’s Funeral Service, Forest Lawn Chapel, (4121 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
