On Friday, September 17, 2021 Mr. Wilfred Johnson, beloved husband of Lillith, of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the age of 84 years.
Wilfred was born at St. Lucie, Barbados on October 21, 1936. He was the sixth eldest of eleven children. Wilfred immigrated to England and then to Montreal, Quebec in 1972, where he met his future wife, Lillith McGlashen. Wilfred, along with his wife and children, relocated to Calgary in 1979. He was gifted with extraordinary carpentry skills, and worked as a journeyman carpenter until his retirement in 2001. Wilfred was an active member of Forest Lawn United Church (Calgary), and was often busy lending his talent to upkeep the facilities. He enjoyed playing dominos and watching cricket. Wilfred spent his last two years residing at Bow Crest Care Centre before transitioning.
Wilfred will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Lillith May Johnson; his children Peter Blake and his wife Esther of Chestermere, Alberta, Jacqueline Rapley and her husband Albert of Regina, Saskatchewan, Dahlia “Joy” Johnson-Green and her husband Cornel of Calgary; seven grandchildren Andrew of Chestermere, Kyle of Chestermere, Matthew of Regina, Daniel (Toni-tiera) of Regina, Janae of Regina, Jette of Calgary, Judah of Calgary; two great grandchildren Jerric, Jehari; and his siblings Stanton Johnson of Barbados, Verona O’Niel of Brooklyn, New York, Marva Armstrong of Brooklyn, New York, Eileen Jones and her husband Irvin of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilfred is predeceased by his parents Margaret and Sinclair Johnson; his sisters Elsie Johnson, Alvie Johnson, Marcia Graham; and his brothers Melvin Johnson and Bruton Johnson.
A Funeral Service will be held for Wilfred at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Showers of Blessing Apostolic Church, 3915 – 34 Street NE, Calgary with viewing beginning at 10:00am. A maximum of 50 people will be permitted.
