Bill Hurd passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2015, at the age of 88 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his seven children: Robert (Peggy) Hurd of Lethbridge, AB; Heber (Dana) Hurd of Winchester, CA; Larry Hurd of Calgary, AB; Marvin Hurd (Rene) of Calgary, AB; Judy (Paul) Spencer of Ramona, CA; Arlene (Scott) Holtom of Enterprise, UT and Kathi (Keith) Wilker of Crivitz, WI; 26 grandchildren and a growing number of great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Bennett of Orton, AB; brother Morgan (Elaine) Hurd of Salt Lake City, UT; and many more family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Julia in 2007, parents Frederick and Winnifred Hurd, sister Ruth Sims and two other siblings at birth. Bill had a number of careers throughout his life including those of a shoemaker and movie projectionist before eventually becoming a journeyman electrician. He first wired farm houses and new homes and then began a 28-year career with CP Rail at Alyth Diesel Shop. After he retired, he volunteered for the Bishop’s Storehouse where he filled food orders for families and individuals in need. Bill was talented at working with his hands and was a handyman in many ways. He loved the outdoors and participated for many years in varying leadership positions in Scouts Canada. He served as Cub leader for 2 years and also assisted with girls’ camp for over 10 years. Along the way he took up landscape painting and photography and left a record of countless outdoor scenes. Bill has been a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. A Funeral Service will be held for Bill at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Willow Park Chapel (940 Acadia Drive SE, Calgary) on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Cardston Cemetery (Cardston, AB) at 4:00 p.m.
