William Gary Selman passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 3, 2020, at the age of 75 years. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 51 years, Bernice; their three daughters: Jodi Selman of Calgary, Carrie (Craig) Mathieson of Okotoks, Jackie (Dave) Wilde of Ottawa; his sisters: Terry Moxley of Calgary, LuWana (Heinz) Knopfel of Winchester, Virginia and Karen Taylor of Raymond. Gary will also be dearly missed by 7 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents William Barker and Mae (West) Selman.
Gary was born on June 24, 1945, in Kingston, ON. At the age of 4, they moved to Raymond, AB, where he was raised. From 1964-1967, Gary served a mission in France for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1968, he married Hazel Bernice Kerr from Hamilton, ON, in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. He willingly served in various church responsibilities and as a Calgary Temple worker.
Gary devoted over 40 years to his medical career as a General Surgeon at the Holy Cross and Rockyview Hospitals. After work hours, you might find him on the golf course at Pinebrook Golf & Country Club or on various golf courses as an Alberta Golf Rules Referee.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff from the Foothills Medical Centre and Palliative Home Care teams for the exceptional care during Gary’s journey through cancer.
In respect of COVID-19 restrictions, a family graveside service was held Thursday, July 9th, 2020, at the Okotoks Cemetery.
