Wylene McConkey, affectionately known as "Karaoke Grandma," passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary on November 12, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on October 9, 1931, in Magrath, Alberta, Wylene's vibrant spirit and passion for life have left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Wylene was perhaps best known for her captivating performances as a karaoke singer, which brought joy to countless friends and family. Her lively presence and enthusiasm made her a favorite at events, where her rendition of classic songs would always light up the room. Her love for music was mirrored by her affection for animals and children, with whom she shared a deep bond.
One of Wylene's proudest accomplishments was her dedication to her community, recognized by her local Royal Canadian Legion. She knitted over 500 afghans for veterans, a true testament to her generous heart and commitment to serving others. Wylene’s compassion extended beyond her immediate circle, impacting many lives throughout her journey.
Wylene is survived by her loving sons, John Scott and Gavin Hamilton; as well as her daughter, Deborah Sears; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and her karaoke family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Norm; three of her children, Beverley, James and Patricia Scott; as well as three of her siblings. She leaves behind a legacy rich with the stories and memories they created together.
A funeral service in celebration of Wylene's remarkable life will be held on November 19, 2024, at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - 44th Street Chapel, located in Calgary.
After the service, graveside interment will take place Rockyview Garden of Peace Cemetery.

As we remember Wylene McConkey, let us honor her spirit by embracing the connections she cherished and living life with the same joy, kindness, and passion that she so abundantly shared. Although she was known as Karaoke Grandma, she was grandma to many in her community. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
