It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Zoë Helen Bowie, who (after a long battle with cancer) passed away peacefully at home in Cochrane, Alberta on the morning of October 31st, 2021.
She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, Nanna, and friend. She will forever be missed by her husband Douglas with whom she travelled the world and embarked on many exciting adventures. Her brother Val, who was her life-long companion and friend, her children Arran, Corran and Annan who learned to be creative, curious and a little mischievous from their mother. To her grandchildren, Zoë was a magical storyteller and trusted confidant. She connected with all the children in her life as she shared in their joy, playfulness and sense of wonder.
She had a great impact on us all. Her step siblings, half siblings, step children, so many family members and friends from around the world will share fond memories of her.
Zoë was born September 29, 1947, in Loughborough England, She immigrated to Canada as a child , via New York, aboard the RMS Ascania.
Raised in a creative environment, Zoë was inspired to pursue her many talents and follow her passions. She excelled at whatever she put her mind to.
She was a wonderful piano player. She danced and twirled the baton, performing at Stampeders’ games and the Calgary Stampede parade. She mastered Tai Chi. She was known as a lover of animals and a skilled trainer of many cherished pets over the years. Her impressive range of interests and pursuits made her all the more beautiful and captivating.
Zoë was well travelled and lived around the world. She returned from Scotland with Robert Brownlee whom she married and raised their children with.
Trained as an administrative assistant, she ultimately took on the role of Executive Development Program Coordinator at the University of Calgary. She was immensely fulfilled by her work, and as with everything, she gave it her all.
When Zoë and Robert went their separate ways, she found love again when she met Doug. She grew her family and thrived in a whole new chapter of her life, one defined by a deep spiritual journey and abiding faith.
Zoë’s life was a beautiful adventure. She will be dearly missed.
