We want to be good neighbors and feel it’s important to be engaged in our Community.
Alberta Health Services and Pierson’s Funeral Service established the Silent Hopes Memorial Program in the 1990s, when it was discovered that unclaimed early pregnancy losses were being discarded in hospital incinerators.
Jointly we created a dignified way of caring for these beloved infant losses, which includes cremation, semi-annual memorial services and final placement in the Silent Hopes Memorial Garden in the Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery. The non-denominational service is a beautiful way for parents to acknowledge their loss and reflect on their infant.
For more information about the Silent Hopes Memorial Program you may contact Alberta Health Services at 403-944-2274 or Pierson’s at 403-235-3602.
Pierson’s Funeral Services supports and works with the University of Calgary, Department of Anatomy, Body Donations Program. The biannual memorial services are held at Queen’s Park Cemetery to acknowledge the valuable contributions that the deceased and their families make to the important areas of education and research.
While donating your body to science is a wonderful gift to our community, not all bodies are accepted into the Body Donations Program. It would be wise to consider an alternative option should a donation not be possible. For more information, please contact the University directly and/or connect with one of our Funeral Directors at Pierson’s at 403-235-3602.
The Alberta Funeral Service Association (AFSA) moved their funeral service education program to Mount Royal University during the early 1990s. Michael Pierson was the President of AFSA at the time, and this move was part of a larger initiative to substantially improve funeral service education in the province, an important goal during his time of service.
Pierson’s Funeral Service continues to support and champion the Funeral Director Embalmer Program at MRU. Since inception, Pierson’s has provided lab time and support as well as practicum opportunities for the students. David Root (a 3rd generation member of the Pierson family) is currently one of the faculty members in the program and was recently nominated as an Outstanding Alumni.
